online Workshop
Communication Basics
Unfortunately, most of us have learned to communicate from our families of origin, and what we learned has proven to be less than effective in our adult lives. Our relationships suffer because we don’t know what to say, when to say it, or how to say it. People misunderstand our intentions and we seem to misunderstand others’. We find ourselves struggling at times even with the people we care so much about. Even when there aren’t big disagreements, they often become larger than they need to be – and we don’t even know why.
It really doesn’t have to be this way.
Learn the basics of clear communication.
This live, online workshop is for everyone. Maybe you are part of a couple who love each other so much, yet almost daily you find yourselves resentful about something – without even knowing how it got that way. Often you hesitate to say anything about small things because it gets all blown out of proportion. Or perhaps you have friends or family members that you have consistent complaints about, or workmates or a boss who is just annoying and you don’t know how to handle what to say while at work.
Communicating well with others is an art and a science, and it requires a good deal of skills. Like learning to play a musical instrument or becoming skilled at a sport, mastering the craft of communication takes a good deal of interest in learning and persistence. Most of all it takes boatloads of practice. This workshop is designed to get you started.
In this online 3-hour workshop you will learn:
The four basic components for compassionate communication.
The two aspects of communication that are required to connect deeply with others.
Practices that will help you to remain connected to yourself when you are upset.
How to offer compliments in meaningful ways.
Some of the key habits and suggestions for how to put this new information into practice.
You can, with most people, find a way to understand, connect, and speak to the differences and disagreements that arise — without crossing the line into fighting or running away from the conversation. No longer will you wait in the bathroom at work just to avoid that co-worker or not answer the phone when your mom is calling. These will instead become opportunities to practice your skills!
This workshop is an overview of the basics of healthy and productive communication.
The good news is that others are not required to take this course as well. Once you embark on the road to compassionate communication, the more difficult questions you have about your relationships will become clear. This workshop is a stepping stone and an important one.
This workshop is live, practical, and useful, with a Q + A session to address your specific concerns.
Registration is limited to 18 people; our intention is to create a container that stimulates good conversation and an opportunity to learn with each other. A Zoom link and class materials will be emailed to you upon registration.
